The Republic of Fiji Navy’s (RFN) RFNS Savenaca during a 10-day operation in the regional fisheries operations ‘Tui Moana’ intercepted and queried 14 fishing vessels operating in Fijian waters.

According to the Fiji Navy, all vessels sighted were compliant and in good standing.

The Fiji Navy Operation Centre and the Fiji Maritime Surveillance Centre, according to RFN, provided support during the surveillance operation.

The Fiji Navy highlighted that it will continue to work with national partners like the Ministry of Fisheries to support Fiji’s efforts to eradicate and deter illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing in Fiji’s waters and the Pacific, which helps maintain fisheries for future generations.

According to RFN, the Tui Moana operation involved countries from the South Pacific region and is coordinated by the Pacific Forum’s Fisheries Agency based out of Honiara, Solomon Islands, five patrol vessels from the region, and five maritime surveillance vessels aircraft New Zealand had been part of the operation.
