Renowned local athletics coach Antonio Raboiliku believes more records will be broken in respective zone meets with two important events awaiting athletes.

It’s not just a place at the Coca-Cola Games that athletes in track and field are vying for but they are also competing for a national spot for the Pacific Mini Games.

This aspect alone he said will encourage more fierce competition from everyone.

“I think for Zone 1, most of the girls in the field events have already qualified for the Pacific Mini Games from Ratu Sukuna.

“I think that makes it interesting to watch the field events because they will rise here and the Cokes, most of them will break records and cement their place in the final squad for Mini Games since the dates for the qualifiers are almost identical.

“With that we also look at the tracks, most of the zone 1 athletes are in the long list so it will be very interesting to see their ones. It has moved the competition up, schools are showing up to compete like we saw with Jai Narayan yesterday (Wednesday) winning two medals, that makes this very interesting,” he explained.

Raboiliku who is dubbed as the man with the midas touch said it will come down to the last event of day two to determine the favourites to take the title from the Suva Zone 1.

“I’ve seen Ratu Sukuna in just a few events, I think they’ve prepared well. Latter Day Saints, not counting out Dudley and Nasinu High School, four big schools going at it, makes it really encouraging.

“It will be a very interesting final because come day two and we see the final tally, only then can we know which team is the best. Never counting out Mahatma Gandhi Memorial and now they are looking forward to defending their title and of course the Cokes,” he added.

Basing from his observations from the Suva Zone 2 and so far  zone one, Raboiliku is anticipating an interesting Fiji Finals ahead.
