TOURISM Fiji’s chief executive officer Brent Hill said they were looking at a modest increase in their budget allocation in the 2025-2026 National Budget, scheduled to be announced next month.
Speaking to the media in Nadi yesterday, Mr Hill said last year their allocation was about $45million.
“So, we are looking at just a modest increase on that,” he said.
“You know from our perspective we want to keep the request in line with the expectations of visitors coming in.
“But of course as we have seen, we have those pressures around the world, a lot of competitors in our space that are competing, and they are really well funded.
“So we have to keep the foot down to be able to keep attracting tourists to Fiji.
“And I think that is really important.
“We have seen markets like North America, and we got to spend in US dollars.
“So, we need the money to be able to do that, and Fiji Airways is continuing to grow, and we want to keep up with that.
“So, we do need more spending, but we are doing it in a modest way as well.
“We are doing that with the revenue that comes back from tourism.”
