Osea Kolinisau has brought back some aspects of rugby the Fiji Airways Fiji men’s 7s team is known for, since he took over as the head coach last month.

This is according to senior player Suliano Volivoli during a zoom conference with the media yesterday.

Volivoli and Rupeni Kabu faced the media yesterday, giving the latest on the team since arriving in Hong Kong.

They also gave their thoughts on the changes in coaching when Kolinisau replaced axed mentor Ben Gollings.

“Ever since Osea Kolinisau came in, I’ve seen a lot of changes especially for the boys,” policeman Volivoli said.

“He has brought back some of the things that Fijian rugby is known for.

“These are some of the things that were done in the past and that is being integrated in our preparation for Hong Kong.”

Kabu who was part of the Fiji 7s team in the 2023 Oceania Rugby 7s tournament shared similar sentiments.

“I’m thankful for the changes because we got to understand that there are things off the fi eld that needed to be addressed first.

“In the past month, we have been working on what we needed to improve off the field before we jump into the field. There are changes and a lot of difference in the way the previous coach did things compared with the current one.”

The team continues its preparations in Hong Kong before the tournament starts on Friday where Fiji will take on Australia at 9.30pm.

They face Canada on Saturday at 12.33am then France at 5.45pm.

Fiji last won the coveted Hong Kong 7s title in 2019.

The side featured in the 2022 and 2023 finals, but lost to Australia and New Zealand respectively.

The All Blacks 7s are the current HK 7s champion.
