HEALTH Ministry permanent secretary Dr James Fong will no longer continue in his role and will be farewelled today.
After serving the ministry for more than three years as PS, Dr Fong will take a well-deserved rest upon the completion of his contract, says Public Service Commission (PSC) chair Luke Rokovada.
He said Dr Fong had not reapplied for the position owing to family and other personal commitments.
“The last years of his service has been intense,” Mr Rokovada said.
“His role in mediating the COVID-19 global pandemic and the subsequent easing of public health measures to support social and economic recovery has been beyond the normal call of duty and should be applauded.”
Mr Rokovada added that Dr Fong’s contributions during the COVID-19 pandemic to treat the significant and increasing number of infected patients from 2020 to early 2022 was testament to Dr Fong’s sterling and visionary leadership.
He said this included Dr Fong’s role in the prevention programs, together with the very extensive and timely intervention and swift implementation of the vaccination program to help save lives.
Mr Rokovada wished Dr Fong well in his next journey as a highly qualified and respected clinician and administrator.
Dr Jemesa Tudravu, the ministry’s chief medical advisor, will replace Dr Fong as of next week Monday
