THE Ministry of Multi-Ethnic Affairs and Sugar Industry has so far distributed more than $1.48million to community-based organisations.

Yesterday, a total of $228,000 was distributed to seven communities in the Central Division.

Multi-Ethnic Affairs Minister Charan Jeath Singh said the aim of their grants program is to help the poor.

“Obviously, this funding is all about helping the poorest of the poor of the communities,” Mr Singh said.

“And this is what we’re targeting.

“We don’t want to give any money to rich communities because they’re already well fed.

“And the rolling out of the grant program has distributed $1.48million in the first round.

“In the second round, which is commencing today, it will disburse $228,000.”

He said the grant program had been a success.

“We have received positive feedback from communities across the country.

“In the Central Division alone, the program has provided support to a diverse range of groups, including crematorium committees, church groups, educational institutions, mandalis, temples and village communities.

“Based on the feedback we have received, the multi-ethnic grant program has played a vital role in supporting community-based organisations.”

Mr Singh said their assistance had not only improved access to resources but had also fostered greater collaboration and unity among community members working towards shared goals.
