The Health and Medical Services Ministry is strategically mapping out key focus areas in terms of upgrading health facilities, says Assistant Minister Penioni Ravunawa.

“We had started since the Coalition Government came in,” he said.

“Most of our health facilities are in very bad shape.

“It is good that in the first year they put up some plans, tried to resource some budget, and we are thankful to the Minister of Finance for allocating a budget for the renovation and refurbishment of our health facilities all over the country.”

Mr Ravunawa said the deterioration of health facilities nationwide stemmed from decades of neglect, but necessary renovation works were being carried out.

“There is a lot of work that has been carried out in the Western Division.

“I know we renovated Bukuya Health Centre, Nagatagata Nursing Station fencing, we’ve done some work in Nadarivatu, we’ve upgraded facilities in Rakiraki.

“A lot of our work is currently in the maritime areas in the northern and southern Lau.”
