THE Ministry of Forestry believes that rural communities are dependent on trees and forest resources for subsistence and income generation.
This was highlighted by the Minister for Forests Osea Naiqamu during the launch of the first ever indigenous trees forest nursery at the Vunimaqo Forestry station in Galoa this afternoon.
Mr Naiqamu said the project aims to work holistically as the ministry wants to ensure the activities it supports does not stand in isolation.
“I believe that we all want to continue to receive fresh air, clean water, fertile soil and maintain our biological diversity,” Mr Naiqamu said.
Forest Officer, Josefa Matagasau said a total of 10,000 vesi seedlings are currently being housed in the nursery and will cater for the requests of those living within Serua, Namosi, Nadroga and Beqa.
