EDUCATION Minister Aseri Radrodro says he cannot comment on Fiji’s 2025 literacy and numeracy results because he has yet to see the national report.
“I’ve yet to see the report,” Mr Radrodro said.
“When I’ll see the report, then I can comment on it.”
His comments come as new Pacific-wide assessment results highlight serious concerns over primary school literacy, with 46 per cent of Year 6 students performing at or below the Year 4 reading benchmark.
The Pacific Islands Literacy and Numeracy Assessment (PILNA) 2025 Regional Report covering 15 countries, found only 44 per cent of Year 4 learners met minimum reading proficiency.
Pacific Community deputy director Seci Waqabaca said it did not contain results from Fiji because this was not shared.
The regional report identified reading as the Pacific’s biggest education challenge and called for a comprehensive response.
