It is important as an employer to report an injury, says Assistant Information Minister Aliki Bia.

Mr Bia, a member of the Standing Committee on Economic Affairs, told a public consultation on the Work Care Bill and Accident Compensation Amendment Bill in Nadroga yesterday that under the proposed Bills, fines would be applied to those who do not comply with the regulations.

“In regards to the current proposed Bill, I note there is a process in the hotel that within 24 hours an injury must be reported,” Mr Bia said.

“Under the proposed Bill we have at the moment, anyone can report an injury. There is a process that will be followed if an injury is reported. There are investigators that will come and investigate how the injury occurred and how the compensation will be paid.

“And if they want more information from the company or the employer that is involved and the employer somehow delays information, there are fines of up to $100,000 for those that fail to deliver information to the investigators.”
