Shangri-La Yanuca Island Resort has been commended for its outstanding contribution to Fiji’s tourism success during the resort’s annual Christmas Tree Lighting event on Saturday.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Tourism and Civil Aviation Viliame Gavoka described the hotel as “one of Fiji’s iconic resorts” pointing out the vital role it played in the country’s tourism sector.

“The spirit of what we see today is exactly what Fiji needs,” Mr Gavoka said.

“The resort’s commitment to supporting the Sigatoka Special School and its overall care for the community reflects the values that define Fiji’s tourism.

“This is one of the dominant resorts in Fiji, and it is leading the charge in our tourism recovery and success.”

Shangri-La Yanuca Island Resort general manager Francis Lee expressed pride in the resort’s performance this year, noting significant improvement post-COVID-19.

“This year has been better than the past two years as we continue to recover from the pandemic,” Mr Lee said.

“Our sales and marketing teams have worked hard to bring guests from Australia, New Zealand, and all over the world to Fiji. We are not just creating memorable experiences for our guests but also making a positive impact on the community.”

He also reflected on the resort’s long history and dedication to maintaining its high standards.

“Shangri-La Yanuca is 57 years old, making us the oldest and largest resort in Fiji. We take pride in constantly upkeeping and improving the property to meet the needs of our guests.”

The resort also showed its commitment to the local community by donating $3500 to the Sigatoka Special School.
