Minister for Public Works, Meteorological Services and Transport, Ro Filipe Tuisawau, says the Government has every right to review and question any recommendations made within its agencies, particularly where public safety is concerned.
Tuisawau made the comments while clarifying that the issue involving the Maritime Safety Authority of Fiji (MSAF) has been amicably resolved and that the Authority continues to operate effectively under its legislative mandate.
“The Minister responsible has every right to question any recommendation, especially when it concerns the safety of passengers, crew, and vessels,” Tuisawau said.
He confirmed that the MSAF CEO remains suspended while investigations continue and urged all parties, including maritime operators, to respect the ongoing legal process.
Tuisawau also reminded operators to adhere to established procedures within MSAF and avoid unwarranted public commentary that could have legal implications.
“The Government remains confident in MSAF’s ability to fulfil its role under the MSAF Act and uphold the highest standards of maritime safety and accountability.”
