If you don’t have a title to property then it has no value, says Deputy Prime Minister Professor Biman Prasad.
Prof Prasad stressed this to the residents of Lautoka’s Tore settlement where he was briefed on civil work progress.
Concerned residents told Prof Prasad, the development work had affected their land with developers removing portions of land to allow work to continue.
“If you build a house, it will be valueless unless you get a title,” Prof Prasad said.
“I agree that the previous government started this work and there’s a lot more to be done over the country.
“From my perspective, if we start well now in 10 years’ time, most people living in informal settlements will get a proper title.”
He told residents they would get their housing titles by July or August 2025.
“We feel it’s important for us ministers to be in touch with our people, we have completed a year and there are so many things we have already done.
For the issue of informal settlements, we are trying our best for those staying in informal settlements to get a proper title.”
