Commuters who wish to travel in the minibus will now have to fork out extra from their pockets following the new minibus fare prices announced by the Fijian Competition and Consumer Commission (FCCC).

In a statement, FCCC approved an interim authorisation for an increase in minibus fares for six routes that would come into effect tomorrow.

FCCC said the completion of the assessment of the minibus fare review considered the necessary historical data and changes in input costs such as fuel prices, tyres, consumable and spare parts.

The commission said fares would only be adjusted for routes from which submissions were received.

The new fare for Nausori to Korovou route via King’s Rd is $3.20 while Suva to Nausori route via King’s Rd is $2.40, an increase from $1.50. It said the new fare from Sigatoka to Lautoka was now $12.10, Nadi to Lautoka $2.90 and Ba town to Lautoka City would now be $2.90.

FCCC stated the increase in fares would allow minibus operators to remain operational and provide uninterrupted services.

It added the input costs of fuel, tyres and spare parts were determined to be a direct result of global disruptions to purchase prices as well as international shipping freight charges.
