Fiji’s lightweight boxing champion Mikaele Ravalaca has another title fight lined up for July 19 under the Kings Boxing Promotion in Suva.

Ravalaca is set to fight for the vacant New Zealand Professional Boxing Commission (NZPBC) super featherweight title against Kiwi boxer Ross Malthus.

Kings Boxing promoter Nahroon Buksh is working in partnership with New Zealand Professional Boxing Commission. The partnership is confirmed by PBCNZ president Ioana Schwalger and Buksh.

The 22-year-old hard-hitting Ra native last fought in Fiji in February this year where he defeated Mohammed Ali just 45 seconds into the second round.

This was also his first chance at a title fight, and he delivered his promise, claiming Fiji’s lightweight title.

Now, Ravalaca, dubbed as the ‘High Voltage’ gets another shot at a title, this time against an overseas opponent.

“I’m committed to my training, ensuring I reach the level that is expected of me to reach and give my supporters and sponsor a good fight,” Ravalaca said.

With this fight marking another significant shift in his career, Ravalaca acknowledged those who have stood by him since day one.

“I thank God for giving me the strength and the talent to play this sport. I thank him for elevating me to levels that I once dreamt of early in my career.

“Despite the hardships I’ve faced, God has been the cornerstone of my journey as well as my family and those that have supported me throughout the years. My day one sponsor, Fresh’et, they saw my potential, they believed in me, and they have been in my corner ever since,” he added.

Trainer Nesta Ranuku said this opportunity is another stepping stone towards the target they’ve set for Ravalaca.

Ravalaca fought two overseas opponents in June and December last year. He won both fights; a split decision win against Ziyee Lee and a fourth round TKO against Australia-born Victoria state champion boxer Alec Kumar.

According to Boxrec, Ravalaca has fought seven times with a record of six wins and a loss. Of the six wins, five came by way of knockout.

Malthus on the other hand has fought six time with two wins and four losses.

In July 2024, the Kiwi boxer fought and beat Zain Adams who defeated Junior Binnu Singh on unanimous points just four months before that.
