UNBEATEN through the early pool stages and brimming with confidence, the Mighty Mights believe they are well positioned to make a deep run at this year’s Vodafone Fiji Cup.

Representing the Raiwaqa Basketball Association, the Mights completed a perfect pool campaign, winning all their early pool matches and emerging as one of the tournament’s frontrunners.

Captain Marika Kuboutawa, who plays point guard, has been instrumental in guiding the team throughout the competition, helping control the tempo of games while ensuring his team mates remained focused on their objectives.

Despite the team’s perfect record, the captain believes there is still room for improvement as they prepare for the knockout stages.

“Our performance today (yesterday) was good, but not on the expectation that we had talked about,” Kuboutawa said.

Their success has been built on strong teamwork, disciplined execution and commitment to sticking to their game plan.

As the team’s primary ball-handler, Kuboutawa has played a key role in orchestrating offensive sets while ensuring the team remains organised on both ends of the court.

The team’s ability to control possession, limit turnovers and convert scoring opportunities has enabled them to remain a step ahead of their opponents throughout the competition.

Heading into the elimination rounds today, confidence within the squad remains high.

“We are confident. As we discussed during our team talk, we should just be confident and have team spirit,” he said.

The elimination rounds are expected to bring tougher opposition so the side will be looking to maintain the same intensity and discipline that carried them through the group stage.

With the elimination rounds set to begin, Mighty Mights aim to carry their winning streak into the knockout stage as they continue their pursuit of the Vodafone Fiji Cup Honours.
