The local tourism sector rejoiced at the arrival of the first MICE (meetings, incentives, conferences and events) group into the country this week.
Tourism Fiji chief executive Brent Hill said the arrival of the Chinese speaking group from New Zealand is great news for the industry.
“Yes – we do expect to see more MICE groups coming to Fiji,” Mr Hill said.
“It is slowly starting to pick up – with some good interest into 2023. ”
Our team, including our Chinese speaking team based in Shanghai have been working specifically on this Chinese speaking global market, with some great results.”
Mr Hill said local stakeholders continued to work really hard as an industry to bring more groups to Fiji. He said that at current, it’s still a relatively small component of our overall visitor numbers but it will grow.
He added lots of work is going in around the world to the various groups and stakeholders in this space to entice them to Fiji.
