A HEARING date scheduled for Meli Bainimarama before the New South Wales Local Court in Parramatta yesterday was vacated to November 27 because of a change of plea.

He has pleaded guilty to charges of assault occasioning actual bodily harm, stalking/intimidating intending fear or physical harm, destroying or damaging property, intentionally distributing intimate image without consent, and intentionally choking a person without consent.

The son of Fiji’s former prime minister was charged with assault and domestic violence related charges and the NSW Local Courts confirmed Bainimarama was charged in 2023 with destroying or damaging property, assault occasioning actual bodily harm and intentionally choking a person without consent.

He committed the offences while out on bail after he was charged with multiple counts of assault and domestic violence in 2022.
