MORE than 20,000 punters have placed their bets at the Grants Betting Fiji branch for the highly anticipated Melbourne Cup 3200m race, which is set to take place today.
The atmosphere at the betting branch in Suva was buzzing with both seasoned punters and newcomers looking to try their luck and potentially win some cash.
Director of Grants Betting Limited Rahul Sundar, mentioned the field for the Melbourne Cup 2024 was ready, which features a 3200m race with 24 horses.
“The favorite jockey for this year is Mark Zahra, who has already secured two wins in both 2022 and 2023, and is aiming for a third consecutive victory,” said Sundar.
“The top favorites for the race include Vauban from France, Buckaroo from Great Britain, and Absurde at number nine.”
“We are expecting somewhere around 20-30 thousand people. We expect this year to be a profitable one not only for us but also the punters as well.”
Sundar extended his thanks to all the new customers and betters and encouraged them to place their bets responsibly.
The race begins at 4pm.
