MATAVELO was crowned the U18 champion of the Ba Rugby Union Junior Competition after defeating FSC Rugby 13-9 in a hard-fought final on Saturday at Vinod Patel Park.

The side, made up mostly of players from the Ba Methodist High School Rugby Academy, showed discipline and determination throughout the match to claim the title.

Matavelo led 10-6 at halftime after controlling possession and making use of their scoring opportunities.

FSC Rugby fought back strongly in the second spell, but Matavelo’s defence held firm as they sealed a four-point victory at fulltime.

The match was played at a high intensity with both teams relying heavily on forward dominance and strong defence. Matavelo managed to slow FSC Rugby’s attacking momentum with solid tackles and good ball control in crucial moments of the game.

FSC Rugby created several scoring chances in the second half and kept pressure on Matavelo deep inside their territory, however handling errors and missed opportunities proved costly.

Matavelo remained composed under pressure and successfully closed out the match to lift the U18 title.
