The Fijian Elections Office has not received any formal communication from Government regarding the possible postponement or reconsideration of the long-awaited municipal elections.

“As of this morning (yesterday), I have not received any formal communication or directive regarding the postponement or reconsideration of the Local Government Elections,” said the Supervisor of Elections, Ana Mataiciwa.

She said her office would continue to await formal directives from the Electoral Commission under the legal framework while preparations for the scheduled September elections continue.

“The FEO has been undertaking preparatory work for the local government elections for some time now.

“This includes voter registration activities, operational planning, recruitment and training preparations, awareness initiatives, systems testing, stakeholder engagement, and logistical planning to ensure readiness.”

Ms Mataiciwa acknowledged that any changes to election timelines would affect planning and operations but stressed the office would continue to act within the law.

On voter confidence, she said transparency and adherence to the legal process were essential.

“Public confidence is built through transparency, clarity, and adherence to the law.”

She said local government elections remained important because they allow municipal voters to choose representatives on matters directly affecting their communities and daily lives.

Ms Mataiciwa also urged voters to update their registration details and continue engaging with the electoral process through official FEO platforms.
