MARKET vendors should keep hygiene in mind when handling fruit and vegetables.

And to create more awareness on this, a food hygiene training session for about 100 Nadi market vendors was held on Wednesday.

Nadi Town Council acting senior health inspector Rajeshwar Raj said vendors were reminded of the importance of following set hygiene guidelines.

“This was an initiative of the Nadi Town Council and the International Trade Centre,” he said, adding it was funded by the European Union.

Mr Raj said the objective of the training was to make vendors aware of Fiji’s regulations on food safety and how to comply with those rules.

He said vendors were also urged to keep their surroundings clean.

“We are hoping to have similar training sessions for new vendors who will be accommodated in the new market extension.”
