Defending boy’s division champion of the Coca-Cola Games Marist Brothers High School is aware of the strenuous effort needed to defend the title this year.

MBHS, which won 13 gold medals to clinch the boy’s division title last year, will face a tough challenge from Ratu Kadavulevu School, Queen Victoria School, and Suva Grammar School this year.

School’s athletics coach Antonio Raboiliku said his team wanted to improve their medal count from last year.

“Last year we won 13 gold medals so this year we need to win 13 or more to show that we have improved from last year,” the winning coach said.

Raboiliku added it would all come down to the events day.

“Come the day, on the field, it’s anyone’s day. We must respect all other athletes and look out for the rural schools. They’re the livewire in this competition. They make it interesting by taking gold medals from the big schools.”

MBHS won 13 gold, six silver and seven bronze medals to win the title last year while RKS came in second with nine gold, eight silver and seven bronze medals.

Suva Grammar finished third with seven gold, seven silver and six bronze medals each.

The Coca-Cola Games begin at the HFC Bank Stadium in Suva tomorrow.
