The trial of former  Fijian Ambassador to the USA  and diplomat Solo Mara’s lawyer continued today in the Suva Magistrates Court.

Third witness and FICAC digital forensic investigator Aporosa Vuinakelo gave evidence in court today and said he had been requested by the chief investigator to assist the team to obtain electronic evidence from Mr Mara’s house under the execution of a search warrant.

He told the court that Mr Mara did not impede their efforts in conducting the search at his residence.

However, Mr Vuinakelo said the former diplomat still refused to provide his passwords and usernames for his personal email and other electronic devices that had been seized during the search on January 24, 2020.

He said following this, Mr Mara had been warned and arrested following this refusal.

Mr Mara is charged by FICAC in January with one count each of disobedience of lawful order and giving false or misleading information.

He is on bail.

The trial continues tomorrow.
