A MAN, who stabbed his wife multiple times during an argument at their Vatuwaqa, Suva home, has been sentenced to three years imprisonment.

Justice Thushara Rajasinghe sentenced the man last month after he pleaded guilty to one count of act intended to cause grievous harm.

The court was told the couple were arguing over the accused’s interaction with another person during a drinking party at their home on November 10, 2024. The argument continued after the man went to the kitchen to prepare food and escalated when he took a kitchen knife and stabbed his wife multiple times under her breasts.

She suffered severe injuries and was rushed to the hospital.

Justice Rajasinghe partly suspended the sentence, whereby the man will serve 18 months, and the remaining months are suspended for a period of three years.

After considering the nearly 195 days he had already spent in custody, the man will serve an actual 12 months in prison.
