A man is in police custody following a raid on a residence believed to be linked to the attempted armoury breach at the Queen Elizabeth Barracks in Nabua, Suva.
Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro confirmed the suspect is being questioned.
“A man is in custody and currently being questioned,” Ms Naisoro said.
She did not respond to queries on whether the man is linked to a known drug dealer in Suva.
The arrest comes amid heightened joint security operations by the Republic of Fiji Military Forces and the Fiji Police Force following recent attempts to breach security at military installations.
Authorities confirmed that within the past two weeks, there had been attempts to gain unauthorised access to RFMF facilities.
However, the military stressed that no weapon, ammunition, or related equipment was missing.
In a statement issued on Monday night, the RFMF warned that any attempt to undermine national security would be met with firm action.
“Any attempt to destabilise national security or endanger the wellbeing of citizens will be met with firm, lawful and proportionate action,” the RFMF statement read.
“Joint security operations are being undertaken in strict accordance with the constitutional mandate of the RFMF under the 2013 Constitution, which charges the force with the responsibility to ensure at all times the security, defence, and wellbeing of Fiji and all Fijians.”
