The State has requested additional time to confirm its position regarding the prosecution of a 43-year-old man accused of brutally killing a teenage girl, following a psychiatric evaluation that found him still unfit to stand trial or enter a plea.
Samuela Dasalusalu appeared before Justice Pita Bulamainaivalu at the High Court in Suva, where senior State lawyer Eoghn Samisoni presented the findings of the latest mental health report.
Mr Dasalusalu is charged with murder for allegedly attacking 16-year-old Salote Sikiti with a cane knife while she was walking home from a village shop in Naqali, Naitasiri, inflicting severe injuries that led to her death.
Following the presentation of the findings, Mr Samisoni sought an adjournment to review the State’s position on how to proceed with the case.
Justice Bulamainaivalu granted the request, and Mr Dasalusalu has been further remanded in custody. The case will be called again on July 9.
