A man from Wanibuku, Nakasi, has been charged with identity theft after allegedly impersonating the Commissioner of Police on Viber and requesting money.
Following consultations with the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, the accused was formally charged with one count of Identity Theft under the Cybercrime Act of 2021.
Fiji Police state he is expected to appear at the Nasinu Magistrates Court today.
Police have reminded the public to remain vigilant against online scams and report any suspicious messages to authorities immediately.
