The chairperson of the Electoral Commission of Fiji, Barbara Malimali, has been selected by the Commonwealth Secretariat to be an observer for the general election in Pakistan.

She is part of the 13 observers from the Commonwealth who arrived in Pakistan yesterday and will stay there until the electoral process is completed.

Ms Malimali was appointed the chairperson of the Electoral Commission of Fiji in October last year.

“The team of observers will assess the conduct of the process as a whole and, where appropriate, make recommendations for the further strengthening of the electoral system,” said Commonwealth Secretary-General Patricia Scotland.

During their stay, the members of the observer group will be stationed throughout the country until election day on February 8.
