MINISTER for Tourism and Civil Aviation Viliame Gavoka says the ministry will seek to upgrade Fiji’s transit traveller experience.
Speaking to Fiji Airports Ltd staff in Nadi recently, he said Fiji needed to take advantage of the economic opportunities which the market presented.
“There is a phenomena that is now developing that we see in the transit development of travel so people may just spend a lot of hours here and connect to go to other places,” he said.
“It will translate to income for the country but I think we need to make the transit experience a worthwhile one and one that gives us economic return.
“There are plans in place to make this happen for Nadi airport.”
He said the ministry had major improvement plans for the a number of airports across the country.
“Our ministry looks after all the airports in Fiji and we will be visiting all the airports.”
He said on his visit to Nausori airport, he heard of how keen they were to see big aircraft return.
“We will be talking to Fiji Airways to see their plans in bringing back the big aircrafts into Nausori.
“It will be a great team effort and we are all eager to see the return of those big numbers and I’m sure it’ll happen very soon.
“So there will be some improvements to the airports across the country and for you, I know some initiatives are in place by your board and that’s going to be part of the budget going forward.”
