His on the field chemistry with the rest of the backline is something that Fiji Airways men’s 7s rover Manueli Maisamoa is working to improve ahead of the Los Angelos Championship, the season finale of the HSBC SEVENS Series Championship.

Speaking to the media before the tournament, Maisamoa said better communication with his teammates on the field is a key area focus.

“I am trying to improve on my weaknesses, there are a lot of my weaknesses, like my individual skills and how I try to adapt to the game plan provided especially with the boys that are on my side on the field,” he explained.

“I will try to work on my connection and chemistry with them during the game on the field and especially the communication off the field.”

With just a day away from the competition, he said that head coach Osea Kolinisau has been stressing the importance of communication among the players, as this is a vital step in successfully carrying out the teams’ strategies.

“There are many advice that coach gave me especially in communication with the team on the field, and the chemistry needs to be good when defence and especially attacking so that the game plan that he placed for the team flows smoothly,” he said.

As this is the last tournament for the 2024/2025 season, the team’s goal has never changed and that is to win.

To win this last one is something that they are all working hard toward to, so improving their individual performance is what he believes will create a better chemistry and then executing the game plan will not be a problem.

“We as a team will try to improve on individual as to try and execute our game plan so that we can win.”

Fiji begins their pool campaign on Sunday May 4, against New Zealand at 6.06am, followed by a clash against Australia at 9.07am.

They will wrap their pool play against Spain at 12.13pm.
