A bench warrant has been issued for the arrest of former schoolteacher Kishore Kumar after he failed to show up in court yesterday.

Magistrate Seini Puamau informed the court of a conversation that occurred in chambers between her, two DPP lawyers and Mr Kumar on the possibility of ordering a psychiatric evaluation as she had earlier suggested.

The court was told that Mr Kumar agreed to the suggestion but requested for time to complete the renovation of his house then voluntarily submit himself.

Mr Kumar is facing charges linked to false allegations he made about possessing pornographic videos featuring Assistant Minister for Foreign Affairs Lenora Qereqeretabua.

In the afternoon session of the trial, the DPP lawyer told the court Mr Kumar had uploaded a video alleging his house had been broken into and that he had lodged a complaint with police.

After the information was confirmed, Magistrate Puamau reminded the court that she wished to have the trial completed by the end of the week.

The trial continues today.
