LTA to outsource vehicle inspection

THE Land Transport Authority will outsource private vehicle inspection to private inspectors by June this year as part of its strategies to improve services.

The authority’s chief executive officer Naisa Tuinaceva said all private and light commercial vehicles would be inspected by companies licensed by LTA.

Mr Tuinaceva said they would outsource these roles to private companies such as garages or vehicle dealers.

“The authority has agreed to outsource more vehicle inspection so by May or June 2016 all private and light commercial vehicles will be inspected by companies licensed by LTA,” he said.

“For instance here in Labasa we might give licence to two or three private garages or vehicle dealers to do inspections. That will take away the waiting time, the turnaround time, the waiting queues as members of the public will have no need to wait for our services at our offices.”

Mr Tuinaceva said people with private vehicles could visit their nearest licensed vehicle inspector.

“It is part of our strategic direction to streamlining and improving our service delivery for this year,” he said.

“However the authority has also set criteria that these private companies will need to meet in order to carry out these duties and we will strictly monitor these requirements before we give companies licences.

“LTA will soon be advertising for expressions of interest and those interested can apply for their licence.”
