SODELPA has been commended, for always maintaining that they will be part of the Coalition Government, says Deputy Prime Minister and National Federation Party leader, Prof Biman Prasad.

Given the change in leadership of the party, Prof Prasad said SODELPA has remained a genuine coalition party and has always maintained support for the coalition government.

“As far as I am concerned, SODELPA has consistently maintained, and the general secretary has always maintained that the Coalition is something that they support,” said Prof Prasad.

“And they will want the Coalition to run until the next election.”

He said, what happens within the individual party and how they conduct their affairs is entirely up to them.

“But no one in any of the three parties should ever threaten the Coalition Government.

“Nobody in this country wants any instability as far as the political party made up of the government is concerned.

“Therefore, it is quite heartening that all parties have maintained right from the start that this is the people’s Coalition Government, and it will run until the next election.”

He further added that there is a lot on their plate as a government and there is no room for any kind of disunity or perceived disunity.

“There are people outside, a small group spreading false rumours about how the Coalition Governments work, and that has not deterred us from working together under the leadership of the Honorable Prime Minister.

“I think that is the message I want to send to the people of the country, investors, and development partners, we are focused on delivering for the people of Fiji.”

When asked for his opinion, with the newly appointed SODELPA leader being Aseri Radrodro, Prof Prasad wishes him well for the new role.

“I’ve worked with Aseri in the opposition, and he was always a very diligent member of the parliament and the opposition and contributed really well.”
