Lorde rises up the music charts

Lorde’s latest single Yellow Flicker Beat is rising up the music charts.

The lead song from the soundtrack to The Hunger Games: Mockingjay — Part 1 was released this week, and already it’s the number one most added song at Alternative Radio in the US.

Ron Perry, president and head of A&R at Songs Music Publishing, tweeted: “And the biggest first week ever for a female artist at the Alternative format since the inception of the MEDIABASE…goes to @lordemusic”.

Lorde took to Twitter to express her gratitude to her 2.27 million followers, posting: “OMG you guys are the best. Already over a million plays on YouTube too…! what is life. THANKYOU xox.”

Billboard has described the single as “Lorde honing her art-pop sensibilities in the context of a blockbuster franchise”, while the Sydney Morning Herald described it as “a strong piece of electronic pop”.

And Time magazine wrote: “The lyrics, paired with the dusky and lilting tone of the song, show off Lorde’s skill at crafting a character that combines Katniss Everdeen’s toughness with her own gothic overtones; it’s cut in the same darkly grooving vein as her LP Pure Heroine.”

Lorde was also ranked number 55 on the Billboard Hot 100, a chart which shows the most popular songs in the US over the past 10 years.

Billboard named Lorde the most important artist under 21 on the planet last week.
