Longest river

IT is well known that the Sigatoka River is Fiji’s longest river.

Unfortunately, however, like some other well known “facts”, this is not true.

The longest river is the stream that rises farthest from the sea (measured along the stream).

The longest river in Fiji is Loqa Creek, Wainibuka, Rewa River, a total of 172 km.

A close contender is Nanuku Creek, Wainisavulevu, Wainimala, Rewa River, 167 km long.

The Sigatoka River (beginning as Navai Creek) is only 150 km long.
