LELEAN Memorial School and Adi Cakobau School retained their Nasinu-Naitasiri-Nausori Secondary Schools Athletics Zone (Triple N Zone) titles at the ANZ Stadium in Suva yesterday.
LMS won 21 gold, 10 silver and 13 bronze medals in the boys’ division while ACS scooped 40 gold, 23 silver and 11 bronze medals.
LMS head of PEMAC department Meli Serukalou said the competition was tough.
“The athletes did well,” Serukalou said.
“The competition was getting hard with schools like Wainimala Secondary School, Lomaivuna Secondary and Bhawani Dayal improving. We used to dominate the competition, but now it seems the schools are coming prepared.”
Serukalou said the school would only take the best athletes to next month’s Coca-Cola Games.
“We are training hard now to improve on our performance for the Coca-Cola Games. We had fielded about 100 athletes in the Triple N Zone competition.”
Meanwhile, 12 records were broken in the two-day competition.
“There were a lot of records broken by ACS as they claimed the title again,” zone official Alifereti Tawake said.
“We had 18 schools and 863 athletes who competed in the zone.”
