A temporary traffic management plan will be in effect from today until Wednesday, October 18, 2023, in identified locations within the Suva-Nasese-Laucala Bay vicinity to ensure that the live tsunami drill scheduled as part of the 2023 National Disaster Awareness Week’s Simulation Exercise is conducted swiftly and seamlessly.
The temporary traffic management plan was achieved through consultations between the National Disaster Management Office (NDMO) and Fiji Roads Authority (FRA).
A statement from the NDMO said during this period, participants from selected communities, schools, and agencies who will be evacuating as part of the live tsunami drill exercise will be utilising several road networks and public footpaths between selected areas from 10am to 12pm on Tuesday, October 17, 2023.
NDMO, FRA and the Fiji Police Force are all working together to ensure minimal disruptions to traffic flow during this live tsunami drill exercise and police officers will be deployed to the designated evacuation points within Suva to assist with traffic management and ensure the safety and security of all individuals involved.
Motorists are requested to adhere to the traffic management measures in place to guarantee the safety of other motorists and the smooth execution of the live tsunami drill exercise.
Cakobau Rd will also be closed between 10am and 3pm from Monday, October 16, to Wednesday, October 18, 2023.
