Yesterday’s test match between the FIJI Water Flying Fijians and the Australian Wallabies saw one die-hard Fiji supporter, Adii Lingam, make the trip to Newcastle, Australia from Christchurch, New Zealand to watch the national team battle the Vuvale Bowl.
Lingam, who hails from the Babasiga town of Labasa, flew across the Tasman Sea with his father-in-law Sanish Singh to watch both teams battle it out on their first assignment of the year.
He was joined by relatives, living in Newcastle, namely Mahi, Aarav, Moreen, Viaan, Anshu, and friends, and relayed his excitement at being able to see the Flying Fijians play against the Wallabies.
Lingam has been living in New Zealand for 16 years and thought of coming over to Newcastle to spend time with them and cheer his heart out for the Mick-Byrne coached side.
His Novocastrian relatives were also excited to come out and support the team, as they all wore Fiji-themed outfits and carried large Fiji flags.
He had gotten in touch with The Fiji Times team on Saturday night and reporter Vereimi Wara sought for them at the entrance to the stadium before the game kicked off yesterday.
Lingam and his companions were part of the 28,132 fans and supporters that turned up to watch the Flying Fijians face the Wallabies for the Vuvale Bowl yesterday.
Fiji was defeated in a tight 18-21 finish.
