Lifters doing well in Samoa

THREE debutants representing Fiji at the recent IBFC Universal Cup in Samoa have made a significant impact in the sport of weightlifting, securing podium finishes in their respective events.

Leading the trio is Isreal Mario, competing in the men’s 65kg category.

He successfully snatched 65kg and lifted 93kg in the clean and jerk.

These impressive lifts earned him a gold medal in the Oceania youth division and a silver medal in the Oceania junior division.

In the women’s 58kg category, Fiji’s Atelina Vulakouvaki also achieved podium success.

She snatched 50kg and clean and jerked 63kg, securing two bronze medals — one in the Oceania youth category and another in the Commonwealth junior category.

In the men’s 71kg category, Etera Rabaua made a memorable debut.

He snatched an impressive 79kg and clean and jerked 100kg, finishing with a bronze medal in the Oceania junior category.

These achievements mark significant progress for the sport in Fiji.

With these promising talents making their mark on the international stage, the future looks bright for weightlifting in Fiji.
