THE Eastern Zone Secondary Schools Netball Competition will bring together the top school teams from across the region this Thursday and Friday at Nasau Park in Levuka.
The two-day competition, scheduled for July 30 and 31, will feature the top four schools that reached the semi-finals from the Nasarawaqa, Tailevu and Levuka secondary school zones.
Fiji Secondary Schools Netball Association vice-president Josua Qalo said the competition would feature teams competing in the Under-14, Under-15, Under-17, Under-19, open and boys’ categories.
“The Eastern Zone competition only comprises of the top four schools that have reached the semi-finals from the different zones,” Qalo said.
The tournament will provide schools with an opportunity to compete against some of the strongest netball programs in the Eastern Zone, while allowing officials to identify emerging talent for future representative pathways.
Qalo said hosting the competition in Levuka is also an important step towards reviving grassroots netball in the district.
“It’s an opportune time for schools back in Levuka, particularly allowing Levuka schools to take netball back to them,” he said.
The competition will feature established schools including Adi Cakobau School, while defending champions and other contenders will look to challenge for honours across the different grades.
The Eastern Zone Secondary Schools Netball Competition will conclude with the finals scheduled for the afternoon of the second day at Nasau Park in Levuka.
