Jared Ma’afu Levai fulfilled a childhood dream yesterday, winning the senior boys’ blue-ribbon event at the LDS Church College inter-house competition held at the HFC Bank Stadium.

The 17-year-old, year 12 student clocked an impressive time to claim the 100 metres title, marking a significant milestone in his athletics journey.

“I have always wanted to win the blue ribbon since I was younger. It took a lot of hard work and sacrifices,” Levai said.

In addition to the 100m, he competed in the triple jump and the 4x100m relay.

Levai previously represented his school at the Fiji Finals last year, competing in the 100m and the relay event. “I like tough competition,” he said.

“My aim is to win a medal in the 100m at the zone.”

Levai trains with the Laucala Bay athletics club under coach Bola Tafoou, dedicating six days a week to speed and endurance training. He has also set his sights on qualifying for the Pacific Mini Games, where the 100m qualifying time is 10.9 seconds.

His current best stands at 11.17 seconds.

“The support of my family and friends keeps pushing me to be better,” he said.

Beyond athletics, Levai also represents his school in basketball, balancing both sports as he chases his dreams.

The LDS inter-house competition saw over 200 athletes participating, with the whole school in attendance.
