Leptospirosis has claimed the lives of two people on Vanua Levu.
The Ministry of Health is now pleading with the public to be vigilant as the disease remains deadly especially after heavy rain and flooding.
During such times, the ministry said infections and diseases caused by the weather condition thrives.
“Leptospirosis is preventable and treatable if caught early, and the public is being reminded to seek medical help immediately if they develop symptoms such as fever, muscle pain, vomiting, or jaundice,” the ministry said.
“Without treatment, leptospirosis can lead to kidney damage, meningitis, liver failure and even death.”
