The Great White Sharks Swimming Club is hopeful that some of its members will make the national squad for the FINA Short Course World Champions in Melbourne, Australia in December.

The club which swims out of the Northern Club at Lautoka will field 24 participants in the Fiji Swimming Short Course Swimming Championships which will start at the Nadi Sports and Social Club tomorrow.

Great White Sharks coach Salaseini Lele said out of their 28 members, 24 had qualified for the national short course event.

“Our swimmers will be participating in the under-9 to U15 age group categories,” Lele said.

“We have some medal prospects like Anselm Coffin, Ethan Johns, Christian Underwood, Gabriel Fatiaki, Nancy Robinson, Christian Ho, Elias Kelly, Savannah Roxburgh, Jordan Wedlock and Stefan Powell.

“They have been participating in all the grand prix events and their training started back in July.

“We are hoping some of our members make the Fiji development squad which is the main target. We are looking forward to other international events that come up.”

Lele said their swimmers had been clocking good times.

“Every time they swim they bring their times down. We have students from Tilak High School, Drasa Avenue Primary School, Lautoka Primary School, Jasper Primary School, Jasper High School, Natabua High School, Lautoka Zhong Hua School, Saint Thomas Primary School and Nadi Christian School in our club.”
