Lawyer tells court: “This is not a newsroom” as Khan faces restraining order breach charge

Imran Khan’s lawyer, Jerry Dinati yesterday told the Nadi Magistrates Court that the court was not a “newsroom”.

Mr Khan, also known as King Khan is charged with one count of Contravention of Restraining Orders – Contrary to Section 42(1)(a) of the Proceeds of Crime Act 1997.

According to the charges read out in court, the accused, in the Central Division, knowingly contravened a restraining order issued by the Civil High Court in HBM of 2023 on December 23, by disposing of vehicles registration KNGKHN through the facilation of the transfer of said vehicle to Ifran Khan, that was subject to the restraining order issued in HBM 213 of 2023.

Mr Khan is alleged to have breached a High Court Order by disposing of a vehicle, that was subject of the initial restraining order which included a $400,000 property, cash currently held at a local bank and four vehicles

His lawyer, Mr Dinati, argued in court that his client was innocent until proven guilty.

He said before his client, Mr Khan, was charged the media continuously spoiled his dignity and character.

“And that is what the media do to sell the newspapers,” Mr Dinati said.

“But your worship, this is not a newsroom. This is a place for justice.”
