THE lawyer representing former Fiji Corrections Service officer Epeli Laqeni is seeking access to the organisation’s standard operating procedure, arguing it is relevant to his defence.
Mr Laqeni, who is alleged to have murdered his de facto partner in Nakasi between September 3 and 5 last year, appeared before Justice Usaia Ratuvili on August 11.
His lawyer Timoci Varinava told the court the document would assist in showing that his client was not at work on the day after the alleged incident but was instead at a hospital.
The State is opposing the request for the document. The application is scheduled to be heard on September 15.
