“This building will go up over my dead body and that goes for everybody who lives on that street!”
That was the message from Suva barrister and solicitor Adrienne Ali to a room filled with residents of Short and Bau streets in Flagstaff at a consultation yesterday on the proposed Nalagi residential apartments.
“This is not designed for Fijians, it is not going to employ Fijians,” she said. “It is not doing any benefit to the surroundings in Suva, to the environment. It is just sheer destruction.
“Because what you’re trying to do is tell us that you’re going to drill a pile down, seven metres and then you want to pour concrete at 10 o’clock at night. When do you think we’re going to get any sleep.”
Ms Ali said there was no need to go crazy just because an investor threw $87million in their face. “This money is not all coming in from overseas. It’s not an investment for Fiji.”
