The Lautoka Methodist Primary School held celebrations at its school last Friday for winning the 2023 Lautoka Zone Primary School Athletics competition.
The school managed to scoop 34 gold, 24 silver and 17 bronze medals at the meet.
The school’s assistant headteacher Pratika Sharma said the win was a special one for them.
“It was an awesome celebration where we actually acknowledged the children for their hard work. It was great as we also had their parents who took part in the celebrations,” she said.
She added this was the first time for the school to take part in a competition on a larger scale.
“One of the first events where all schools have come together and participated with all the schools around Lautoka involved. This win will surely motivate the students to do better in years to come.”
She said the Lautoka team for the Primary Schools National Finals will have the majority of athletes from her school.
Apart from winning the girls and boys divisions, Meresiana Sadranu managed to win the Best Female Athlete having won gold in 800m, 1500m and the 4x400m relay.
