A family of 10 was rendered homeless yesterday after a fire destroyed their house at Matawalu Village, Lautoka.

All the members of the house were on the front porch having breakfast when the fire broke out.

“While we were eating, there was a fire in one of the rooms,” said occupant Pauliasi Matanavutu.

“We just moved away from the fire because there was strong heat and luckily no one was inside the house.” He said they weren’t able to save any house belongings.

“This house belonged to my wife and we have been staying here since 2017. I am grateful no one was hurt.”

Mr Matanavutu said they would live with relatives while contemplating what to do next.
