A resort has launched its honeybee project by installing 10 beehives in the engineering gardens.

Each hive contains approximately 60,000 bees. Led by its resident beekeeper Simione Neirube, the InterContinental Fiji Golf Resort & Spa project aims to provide a haven for the bees and assist the resort in sustainably producing honey for guests’ consumption.

The project provides a rare experience for guests to indulge in pure honey during breakfast at Navo Signature Restaurant and Club InterContinental, as well as in Spa InterContinental with its signature honey treatment.

“We are thrilled to launch the honeybee project, which is another step towards our long-term goal of becoming a more sustainable resort,” said area general manager South Pacific, Lachlan Walker.

“This project aligns with our sustainability initiatives, and we are excited to offer our guests a truly immersive and sustainable experience. Our guests have the opportunity to experience the unique taste of our home-grown raw honey in various aspects of their stay, including breakfast, as well as our signature Spa InterContinental treatment,” he said.

On offer at Spa InterContinental is a 90-minute spa experience with a sugar and honey scrub, a yoghurt honey wrap and facial, a rich milk and honey cleanse and an organic antioxidant mask of honey, yoghurt, and turmeric.

Aligned with the resort’s Journey to Tomorrow sustainability initiative, around 60 litres of honey have reportedly been harvested since the project was set up, with the long-term goal of producing enough honey to supply the whole resort year-round.
